1,000 miles to Christmas charity challenge
The boys at Clarke Williams have decided to set ourselves a 1000 mile cycling challenge to help raise money for charity.
Scott charity this year is the Samaritans. 2020 has been an extremely difficult year for most people struggling with work worries, health and family concerns whilst being isolated from friends and family. With Christmas approaching I felt that for some people it might be too much which is why I picked the Samaritans, a charity dedicated to suicide prevention. Every year, Samaritans volunteers spend over one million hours answering calls for help. A one off donation of £25 is the equivalent of keeping a helpline open for 7 minutes. £46 could help train and support a volunteer for a year.
Henry’s chosen charity is Sustain Food Bank in Tonbridge who rely on donated items from generous local people, schools and businesses. However, the current need exceeds the supply of donated items. This appeal will help them purchase additional food items when they are needed most.
Each week since March SUSTAIN has provided an average of 60 emergency food parcels. A family parcel costs £50 and an individual parcel costs £25 to put together, a total cost of between £1,000 – £1,500 each week. Your donation would go towards ensuring that they can continue to provide emergency food during this difficult time.
Ashley and Joel’s chosen charity is Bernado’s who help protect, support and nurture the UK’s most vulnerable children. They provide a range of services to help and support families across the UK, working with organisations and professionals so that children get the best start in life.
Ashley picked Barnardo’s because of the additional support given during the pandemic to help children who are struggling mentally. Joel chose Barnardo’s because his mum worked in a unit for children with complex and severe special needs for 15 years and they were always desperate to raise funds for new equipment.
£10 could give a young carer a day out, and a break from their caring responsibilities. £25 could provide a young person with bedding and a safe place to sleep. £50 could provide specialist support to help a child recover from the trauma of sexual abuse.
The aim is to raise £1,000 for our chosen charities. If you would like to donate please visit https://www.justgiving.com/team/clarkewilliams.
